2nd BAT Unit 2 Revision

1-Suffixes are added to the end of the base to form new words (enjoy, enjoyable). Common noun suffixes are: -ion, -sion, -ence, -ness, -ment, -ity, -ship, -ance, -er, -or, -ure, etc. Common adjective suffixes are: -ful, -less, -ous, -ed, -ing, -ive, -able, -ent, -al, -ic, etc. Now you can find out how much you know about word formation with these activities:

Activity 1 Adjective Suffixes

Activity 2 Noun Suffixes

2-Verbs followed by a gerund or to-infinitive: Some verbs are followed by a gerund, some others are followed by the to-infinitive, some can be followed by both forms, and a few can be followed by these two forms but with a slight difference in meaning. Wanna do some practice? Let’s start!

Activity 1: Gerund or infinitive?

Activity 2: Gerund or infinitive?

3-Perfect Tenses: they show action already completed. They are formed by the appropriate form of the verb “to have” and the past participle of a verb.

Present Perfect: I have seen that movie twice.

Past Perfect: She had gone when I arrived.

Present Perfect Continuous: Our lives have been improving over the years.

Past Perfect Continuous:  We didn’t go to London, although we had been planning the trip for two weeks.

Exercise 1 Perfect Tenses

4-Sherlock Holmes: After seeing your interest in the book we have just read (I could tell as you ALL remembered the author’s name in the test!)  I thought it was a good idea to see it from a different perspective, I hope you like the trailer and the activity I have prepared on it. Have fun!
